- SELF INTRODUCTION: I was on the last board as bonustoolkit. I have changed that to my given name.
I started a project build there " File and Fit." I paln to continue that when I go back home in Dec. 2011. I first joined the board when Gary W had it in the year 2005. That was the time I really gained an interest in building chops. I have a long way to go, compared to some here.

- SELF INTRODUCTION: Hi Dan, thanks for your time and energy spent on this new board. I hope you will give me a waiver on the email account, I have used gmail so long I don't have a clue what my service provider account is.
I just returned home from a 2 week trip in New Mexico, have a few good pix, can't wait to share my off-highway traveling. Got to put 1400 miles on the scoot.

- SELF INTRODUCTION: I am not a bum. I'm a jerk. I once had wealth, power, and the love of a beautiful woman. Now I only have two things: my friends and... uh... my thermos. Huh? My story? Okay. It was never easy for me. I was born a poor black child. I remember the days, sittin' on the porch with my family, singin' and dancin' down in Mississippi.

Re: My new bike.... to me ... ; )
Nice bike Yona! I just bought this '88 FX Softail for $5,200 and then dumped another $1k into it for tires (not installed yet), brakes, bars, risers, grips, primary chain, seat, pipes (not installed yet), CV Performance carb kit etc, etc...But when they don't need anything you can get 6-7k for them around here. My idea was to ride it for awhile and then use the drivetrain and VIN for my chopper project later on...but that may or may not happen.

Re: My new bike.... to me ... ; )
Looking good ... I have not even scrubbed the red georgia mud off my tires... I might just ride it off as the tires are a little dry rotted...small checks on the side wall... When it warms up (10 mins riding) I get a sound from the primary like I am trying to engage gears without using the clutch...In neutral , with engine running or moving , so I assume it is in the primary drive. Taking the jack to the shop and will check the oil level in primary case.... see if it has a wet clutch and chain... Big Jim sent me a manual link and I am going thru it...This bike was built and then sit for a few years ..... the guy I bought it from said he put o maybe 20 miles, on dirt roads...talked to the one that built it and he said he put maybe 60.....engine oil was a little above low mark and trans is good...all was suppose to have been redone so it is a egg hunt at best....this is the newest bike I have ever owned !

Re: My new bike.... to me ... ; )
2 indy wrenches said that it sounded like something was amiss in the starter....said the starter gear was trying to engage the flywheel... said the outer has to come off.... did I tell you I hate oil,,,,,,

Re: My new bike.... to me ... ; )
I have a service manual for my 1991 FXR. Lemme know if you need some info from it.
Right now, it sounds like a minor issue. Might be a weak spring on the starter jackshaft, but I can't remember which way the spring works, if it holds the starter pawl away, or if it pushes to engage. I'm at work, but can look it up later if you need.
Be very rare to get a bike for this price and have zero issues with it.
It's still a very nice bike for a very nice price.
