Thanks Jimmib, we did get a bit of chatter when we first built it but then we added the lower support plate which has a clamp under the lathe bed...now we can work up to a radius the size of the faceplate without chatter but it does get a bit scary at those sizes

Getting the tool shimmed into place also helped...if you get it mis-aligned or slightly loose then it will chatter.....a lot

at the risk of more smutty comments here's an example of my large radius tool in use - these are one-off items I'm making for a customer from solid aluminium.... Maz xx

Not sure ......but i don't think we are allowed to show our large radius tools on this forum..... : (
