Springer parts

Post by Cycle-psycho »

Hi Everyone, I am new here and I thought id start off by asking where a good (reliable) place on the internet to order springer front end parts would be? I am building a chopper with an Ultima rigid frame that has 38 degree rake and 8" downtube stretch. I want the old school springer look and I have ordered a set of plans from The Chopper Handbook.

One of my other questions (and there will be many!) is: to increase strength in the rear tubes and yet keep flexibility, I was thinking of slipping a smaller tube into the main tubes and only welding the one end of the two tubes together (say, at the upper end where the bung gets welded into the end of the rear tube and then stopping the inner tube partway down the rear leg). This way the tubes would work together for strength, but also the slight slip in between the tubes would still keep them flexible. Is this a wacko idea, or does it have some merit? I know Id be adding weight, so I don't need to hear about that side of it.

SELF INTRODUCTION: I was on the last board as bonustoolkit. I have changed that to my given name.
I started a project build there " File and Fit." I paln to continue that when I go back home in Dec. 2011. I first joined the board when Gary W had it in the year 2005. That was the time I really gained an interest in building chops. I have a long way to go, compared to some here.

Thanks, I will have a look at the bitter end website. I'm waiting for the CBH specs for the build, so in the mean time I will collect some steel, parts, and tools.
After spending months trying to decide which springer to order, it feels great to have decided to build my own! I will know that I made it my self and that all of the parts are made the way I want them. If it screws up on me, I can only blame myself.
Ive already taken a stock 9" flat fender and narrowed it by 1" and shrunk the radius to fit my tire, and that exercise felt good. Ive worked on cars quite a bit, but other than bolt on parts on my Dyna, I have not built a bike before, so this will be very rewarding!

SELF INTRODUCTION: Hi Dan, thanks for your time and energy spent on this new board. I hope you will give me a waiver on the email account, I have used gmail so long I don't have a clue what my service provider account is.
I just returned home from a 2 week trip in New Mexico, have a few good pix, can't wait to share my off-highway traveling. Got to put 1400 miles on the scoot.

the sleeve, even if full length inside the tubing doesn't work as one might imagine. Just use the tubing specs that are included on the plans in the table on the drawings and you'll end up with a nice set of forks.

thanks for the info. Once I get the plans, I will stick to them, with the exception of the shape of the trees. I want to shape them like the shape of a Gibson SG guitar (since i have one).
