Hi guys,
while I was chamfering the rear axle plates, an unexpected question rose up in my mind...
Do I have to weld them from the inside also (so that I have to chamfer both sides of the plates), or it's enough to weld them from the outside only?
Keep in mind that my plates won't be in the middle of the milled tubes, like in Gary's plans, but flush with the inside of the tubes, with the tubes simply resting on top & bottom of the plate..
Oh, and btw, these are the plates almost ready to be welded.. ;P

PC, VD, AARP & NAACP I'm pro business and totally against big government interfering in our daily lives. Live free or die baby and you'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands. Personally I would weld them both sides. Just take your time and don't overheat them or the tubing.

Well, I thought that considering my axle plates configuration, maybe the weld beads could interfere with the wheel spacers or something..Jeff L wrote:Is there a reason you wouldn't weld both sides?...nice plates btw

Yes, I tend to overthink stuff...

Many thanks to everybody!

- SELF INTRODUCTION: I was on the last board as bonustoolkit. I have changed that to my given name.
I started a project build there " File and Fit." I paln to continue that when I go back home in Dec. 2011. I first joined the board when Gary W had it in the year 2005. That was the time I really gained an interest in building chops. I have a long way to go, compared to some here.

It may not be a problem unless you slide the wheel/axle as far back as it will go.Nero wrote: maybe the weld beads could interfere with the wheel spacers or something..
Do a mockup with the axle plates tacked in. If it's OK, weld it up.

It is a little tight but.. however
I do not plan to move the axle to the far end of the plate anyhow, so..

"TIG" them and the welds should clear just fine.
