Re: new project
messed the whole thing up . i didnt realize the print i was using had a stretch in the back half of the frame from the seatpost to the axl and that i had not thinking i set it up to do a softail frame . i want the fender to sit way close to the tire and all that stretch makes too much exposure of the frame where the posts all come together under the seat . as theyre not under the seat anymore . when i originally set up the jig i had a stock evo softail frame and it puts the rear axl 2 full inches back from a regular hardtail frame . so it looks like ill be building another frame for this project .

Re: new project
i recently picked up some new toys from fireball tool . came in handy resetting up the jig to do the new frame . i got the motor post square to the bottom rails then the motor trans plates square to the post tomorrow ill get the axl post square to the bottom rails and the plates . dug out the prints for the 48 frame so i can get better dimensions for the rear half i still want some stretch and rake and up a few so all the stretch in the front . i found a cool tool to put the 17 degree angle in the rear motor and front trans mount to the seat post . pics tomorrow but its just a cheap vevor wood router with an adjustable angle base it has a 1/4 inch chuck so it fits a rotary file die grinder bit . i set the angle to 17 degrees flipped it over locked it in the vice and used the bottom plate as a table its way easier to control the small motor and trans mounts by hand that way instead of the heavy tool and trying to lock down the small pieces . my drill press isnt strong enough to use a hole saw and i dont have a mill so its a cheap easy and fast way to do it i think .

Re: new project
got to bending and fitting some tube today love the new squares . set the squares with to the bottom tubes on the jig locked them in place and used them to make sure the uppers are set to the same distance and parallel to each other made the fit to the backbone easier to set

Re: new project
not alot today tacked the wishbones to the backbone set them on the seatpost just to see and spent some time making sure the seatpost is perfectly centered in the frame . it still does need to come back out to be coped im still trying to decide if i want to bend it back just above the trans

Re: new project
As far as bending the seat post, Iam assuming that is done for clearance for the transmission?
On My frame, I had to dimple the post to clear the transmission.

Re: new project
i was thinking i might bend it back a little just above the trans to gain a little room around the engine im thinking about a half inch higher also . i like the tight look but fat fingers and tools sometimes are too much .
