- SELF INTRODUCTION: Hey...I live in South Jersey (the Super Fund State) work as an Operating Engineer local825.Besides bikes I love to fish the surf.I have my current & seemingly endless project a BSA 750 Rocket3, a 72 Honda CB750,79 Kawasaki KZ1000, 48 Simplex, & a 62 Norton Atlas engine

I like the second girder.It has that rough raw look I like.But I would run either.
Changing the shape of the Earth...1 bucket at a time...IUOE local 825 top of the food chain

Yeah, the first one is ultra clean but the second one has a very old look about it....I will probably have a go at this style sometime soon but not on this project......

- SELF INTRODUCTION: Just an Iowa country boy that has been pouring concrete for over 30 years. I have been around for awhile. I have watched 3 forums come and go. I built my first chop with the help of the great guys on this forum. You're a busy girl Maz! Looks good. Have you ever thought of ditching the tube on the lower cross member on the girder? I quit useing rectangle tube and went to 1/2" plate. Sure seems like it makes life easier.

I never noticed before, but it's interesting that the rear connection for the lower links is substantially narrower than for the top links.
Apparently the lower tree is narrower, in order for the lower links to clear the rear leg of the girder.
The top girder shown above is much better looking, but I have wonder if the lower girder by Tony Foales isn't considerably stronger, since it has the cross-bracing.

Use a 1/4" (6-7 mm) plate cut to what shape you want that cross piece to be and weld it in like I suggested for gusseting "diamond" so that at the postion it is welded in at the tubing is now 2 right triangles sharing a hypotenuse ( super stiff) and far stronger than any other method of attaching the support for the lower linkage !!

i have a lot of 1/2 x 2and 1/2 bar lying arround and was going to see if i could use it for mine is it better to weld it to the outside or inside of the tube
ever notice when you hit somethin or someone with a hammer you feel instantly better

I center my 1/2" CR on the tube but of have seen them on the inside and the outside. My pic above is my fixture for holding the lower crossmember support. If you use rectangular tubing, I seem to spend a considerable amount of time fitting this piece along with the legs and keeping all axis's true. I just found out it jigs up much easier this way and I am more accurrate.

Well I spent a very cold evening out in the workshop fabricating the split tubes for the front of the frame...now I'm back indoors drinking JD and hand painting silly designs onto my boring plain black welding hood.....

So I've been busy making a few small parts from billet aluminium (I'll post some pics in the machine shop section...) and I also mocked up the split front down tubes and radiator....
I still have quite a lot of fabricating to do but I'm pleased with progress so far this is going to be a seriously radical punk style bike but she sure ain't gonna be pretty
