Winter Project - Build 5 - Sacrilege
I hesitate to post here as my skills are far from what I have seen on here.
This is my 5th build in the last 10 years and after checking out some of the craftsmanship on display here I feel like a true rookie.
So for what its worth, here is what I am working on this winter.
The seat and rear fender isn't certain yet, gas tank still in development, will more than likely shovel powered (I have one in a donor bike)
36 over springer @ 57degrees, Kraftech frame I cut the neck off of and re-set a new one on at 54 degrees, I pick up the additional 3 degrees from the rise I was looking for in the bottom rails.
Modern stuff with some traits of the 60-70's blended in with the now out of vogue wide tire (250) and softail frame, six speed trans and 80's shovel motor.
Sacrilege to mix all these things, and I am sure there will be those who don't like it..... so what......It's mine.....paid for....and made by me.

that's the beauty of building your own. you build, learn, rebuild, etc as you go, and the bike is constantly in evolution as your skills progress. *that's* why it's cool.
someone else don't like it… they don't have to ride it.
looks like a fun project to me!

Re: Winter Project - Build 5 - Sacrilege
Well how about some pics from this weekend.
Made some risers to extend the rabbit ears bars I got on the cheap from Bison Motorworks. I was going to weld them on to the bars but they seem pretty solid so I am gonna use them as they are and I can use them for any other handle bars I may make in the future. The rabbit ears go inside about 1.5 inches.

Re: Winter Project - Build 5 - Sacrilege
I had bought the front brake set up before I the front end and got a 3/4 axle type.
Because of the length a 1 inch axle was used instead..... well I got material and time so instead of the normal brass bushing set up that will wear after awhile I took a 1" id wheel bearing and made a new bracket to fit so the bearing id acts as part of the wheel spacers and won't wear and flop around after awhile... we'll see if it works.
Pic of the 3/4 vs the new 1' roller bearing bracket.

Re: Winter Project - Build 5 - Sacrilege
They all had a certain thing to them, the Sporty was actually a Buell Lightning motor in a rigid frame...BAD DECISION..... I could get all 5 gears in a block and be going a 100mph instantly, but the mirrors would explode from vibration, the right one at 80 and the left about 92 or so, happened more than once.Jeff L wrote:I like the stance of the new bike...Sporty looked good too.
The second was was by far my favorite and the one I kick myself in the arse for getting rid of. Did a lot of miles thru the mountains and twisties on it and it always amazed me and anyone riding with me just how wrong they were thinking I couldn't cut the mountains up zipping along and passing.....choppers just don't do that!! With a little more than 2 inches of trail and 28lbs of air in the rear tire she was ready for action and never failed......I miss her.
3 and 4 rode great, I was just Jonesing for a real long bike, so the frame for this one came along at a steal, and off we went. (Of course I have cut up this frame and ruined it......just ruined it..... some have said)

- SELF INTRODUCTION: I was on the last board as bonustoolkit. I have changed that to my given name.
I started a project build there " File and Fit." I paln to continue that when I go back home in Dec. 2011. I first joined the board when Gary W had it in the year 2005. That was the time I really gained an interest in building chops. I have a long way to go, compared to some here.
Re: Winter Project - Build 5 - Sacrilege
You have had some nice bikes. #3 would be my choice. Build on, we are watching.
